This is what Wikipedia has to say about the church of Sillegny:
Saint Martin church (French: L’église Saint-Martin), nicknamed the Sistine Chapel of the Seille. Her nave was built in the 15th century. This gothic style church had a massive fortified tower which was used for protecting the inhabitants in the troubled times.
Strange that it doesn’t mention the frescoes! They were made around 1540 and represent 50 scenes from the Old and the New Testament and were restored and cleaned in the beginning of the 21st century. Nobody knows the name of the artist who made the frescoes.
What a beautiful church! And again we were the only visitors!
Beautiful artwork in this church.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thanks, Francine!
These are beautiful.
Glad you like them, Colline!
Makes me wish I could see them live
Very pretty!
I wonder how much work goes into maintaining them.
A lot! The restoration works alone took years.
What remarkable artwork! Thanks so much for sharing these interesting photos.
You’re welcome!
Breathtaking art and architecture.
Imagine us walking into that church and seeing these! It was quite a surprise!
Maybe not Master quality, but still beautiful. And, very inspiring! One of the positive aspects of religion. — YUR
One of the very few?
Such beautiful images–a little rough around the edges and naive, but they feel sincere
Thanks for the compliment!
