Brussels is a multicultural city! And we are not just talking about the tourists from all over the world who come here, but especially about its inhabitants. There are for example Turkish, Polish, African districts in town and it’s our goal this year to explore these!
If you are into everything Asian, you simply have to go to Zwarte Lievevrouwstraat 2 – 4, 1000 Brussels.
Here you will find the biggest Asian supermarket of the Belgian capital, Kam Yuen Supermarket. Anything connected to oriental cooking can be found here: noodles, rice, curries, vegetables, drinks, frozen fish, seafood, duck, frog legs and so on. There is a separate department with everything you need to cook and serve an Asian meal.
Just a couple of words of warning. Some of the vegetables are not always fresh and it’s better to check the perishable date. Staff is efficient, but not very friendly. But don’t let this spoil your shopping experience!
In the streets in this neighborhood you will find more Asian supermarkets and stores, and restaurants as well. More about that tomorrow!
I’ll be reading these with extra-interest. I’ll be in Brussels in June. You kindly gave me some personal advice a few months back, and I’ll be soaking this in, as well.
If you more questions, please do ask!
Somehow I didn’t think of that side of Brussels. I look forward to your experiences–the Afghan quarter especially!
It’s the side of Brussels you don’t see as a tourist, even though it’s in the center of town!
Wow, that’s huge!
I doubt I’d recognize half the products on the shelves.
You are not the only one
I never thought there would be a Chinatown in Brussels. Amazing! Thanks for sharing and following my blog!
You’re welcome!
Looking forward to seeing more from you! http://www.segmation.wordpress.com
What great shots of a market. Informative as usual – Thanks.
You’re welcome too!
it’s amazing how much brussels and amsterdam look so much alike!
Except that Brussels doesn’t have any canals
太好了!
I love exploring Asian supermarkets, they’re so exotic and mystifying.
Exactly! All these unknown products!
Looks like a great find. We miss our Asian market in Boston. I need to find a decent one in London that’s close to where I live. Happy discovering.
I hope you’ll soon find one!
Every Chinatown I’ve seen has been a delight. Here you give me yet another I can dream of visiting! Of course, I’ve yet to get to Brussels at *all* yet, so it’s high on the list of places I’d love to see one day. Thanks, as always, for sharing!
xo
You’re welcome!
Wondeful Brussels…has everything!
We used to love visiting family there when we lived in France…a taste of civilisation!
Wow, I was looking for a good Asian market near Leuven but couldnt find one, except for some small stores, I gotta check this out…thanks
I hope you’ll like it!
Ingrid, you are a godsent! I’ll be once again in Brussels in September, i’ve done most of the ‘must see’ during previous couple of stays and – guess what – i am CRAZY about all things Asian!!! Woohoo! Great!
And there is a lot more to see in this neighborhood! Pictures and stories coming up next week! And I think it’s the first time anyone has called me “godsent’, so thank you!
