Aglaia Konrad is an Austrian photographer and artist, who lives and works in Belgium. Her work focuses mainly on metropolitan urban space. The complete title of her artwork for Manifesta 9 is PREFAB, Frankfurter Küche also stands for women in kitchens, but great chefs are men. According to the guidebook,
Konrad’s installation presents a set of comparative case studies that examine the conception, development and spatial
organization of prefabricated housing and domestic life-space for the working classes.
The installation of Konrad consists of different types of material, including photographs and quotations, highlighting
issues regarding the economy of space, the question of social engineering through housing, and the architectural repercussions of social and political reform that came with the rise of the need for social housing.
