This artwork was made by Marcel Broodthaers. According to Wikipedia,
Marcel Broodthaers (28 January 1924 – 28 January 1976) was a Belgian poet, filmmaker and artist with a highly literate and often witty approach to creating art works.
His Trois tas de charbon consists of coal, wood and paper. According to the guidebook,
Between 1966 and 1967, Marcel Broodthaers incorporated coal into the trademark material vocabulary of his artworks, making it part of his skewed critique of Belgian identity.
I dunno. I think I need to spend time with both Broodthaers’ and Duchamp’s art. They are still a bit beyond me. I do appreciate your introductions though.
You have to get used to certain artists, that’s for sure!
