Coal Drawing Machine (2012) is a work by the Mexican artist Carlos Amorales. It consists of a plotter printer, paper and charcoal.
According to the guidebook,
Amorales’s recent drawings explore the interface between humans and machines. His Coal Drawing Machine is installed in a pretend office. The precision of the machines is countervailed by his use of charcoal, that most elemental of graphic tools.
The printer itself was huge and so were the resulting artworks. I loved the different patterns and the fact that you could walk around in this art project.
The drawings are quite intricate.
Beautiful, isn’t it?
