Road Tripping Europe

Discovering and photographing the unknown beauty of Europe

Creepy Travels – ‘t Spookhuys

We started with an abandoned horror-themed restaurant: ‘t Spookhuys, also known as House of 1000 Spirits. There were once rattling chandeliers, smoking ceilings and moving paintings in this place. Transvestite draculas, illusionists and devil-worshiping dancers entertained the guests while they were eating mud pie out of a skull. Rumor has it satanic rituals were held in this house in order to leave angry spirits to roam the premises.

The restaurant closed its doors in 2008.

You can find ‘t Spookhuys on the Steenweg op Gierle 441 in Turnhout, Belgium.

So, how did we experience our visit? Finding the place was a challenge, since Lulu, our GPS, couldn’t find the exact address. Photographing the house was … very difficult, due to “unforeseen circumstances”. Although we haven’t seen any ghosts or demons around the abandoned house, the place had something unsettling.

I will publish a couple of picture of what the house looked like before and one in black and white that I took during our visit.
