Road Tripping Europe

Discovering and photographing the unknown beauty of Europe

TRACK – Trip

The next artwork of TRACK took us to the abandoned buildings of the Faculty of Architecture and Building of the UGent (University of Ghent).

The German artist John Bock works with different kinds of materials and media, usually expressing an absurd parody of modern science. For TRACK he created a project called Trip, a series of pseudo-scientific machines and installations. Via absurd video clips the artist tries to prove to his audience that his creations actually work; in reality they in fact don’t function at all.

This was clearly an artist with a lot of imagination! I liked the absurdity and the fun element of his creations; art doesn’t always have to be serious. The fact that he presented his work in an environment that was known for its scientific activities added to the irony of the whole project.
