Let’s start with the bad news. The Viking and I have taken the decision to completely cancel our Balkans trip. About a week ago, we already announced that we were going to shorten our trip, but apparently that will not help us sufficiently to solve a couple of very urgent problems.
Are we disappointed? Yes and no. After five months of planning and dreaming, it is indeed hard to cancel your plans. But if we hadn’t done it, our problems would only have become bigger and that’s not an option either.
On the other hand, the Balkans will still be in the south of Europe next year. And unless there is a civil war going on or there is an earthquake or another natural disaster, we can still go there. So, we are only postponing our plans. And that’s not the end of the world, is it?
Now some good news. Actually very good news. The Viking has three family members who have invited us to spend our summer holiday with them. That means: free lodging! Two of these family members are his mother in Fyn and his aunt in Zealand. Cool! That’s two different Danish islands that we can further explore! And we have already decided to visit Jutland as well, especially the north. And that is something we have been dreaming about for 18 months!
And then there is family member number three. Now it gets really exciting! The Viking has got a cousin called Henrik, who has a guest house in the south of France. Yes! First of all, it means a beautiful drive from north to south. We have many options and we’ll decide the last moment which one we will choose. And then we can stay in a French region that is unknown to both The Viking and myself.
Actually, we are happy we have taken this decision. We will be a lot more at ease and it will be more adventurous, since we haven’t planned anything yet, except for a couple of excursions. The Viking and I have already come up with a name for our trip: Adaptable Adventure. We can adapt our summer trip to our needs, wishes and budget. So, although our summer trip will be less exotic than expected, we still hope that you will follow our Adaptable Adventure – and all the other trips as well!
By the way, next weekend we are back in Denmark for a very special project that we have been dreaming about ever since we met!
You have some great adventures ahead. Geesh. And I am just trying to get to Chicago for a day before summer is over.
There used to be a time when I wasn’t able to travel at all, so I am catching up
woo woo woo! Sounds like it’s still going to be an exciting summer!
Yes, it will!
Glad there was some good news to go with that bad news!
We always try to be positive!
When one door closes, another one opens.
And for every problem there is a solution
I look forward to reading all about it.
Thank you and welcome to the blog!
Have Fun!
We certainly will
Sorry to hear that and hope you find more relaxing things to do…
Don’t be sorry! We have found a beautiful alternative and we are looking forward to it!
Sounds good to me! Looking forward to following Plan B.
So are we!
What I like about this is you bring up the hugely important piece of travel called adaptability! Rarely do trips go exactly as planned and you are great models of making it work – oh and I adore the header picture. It’s absolutely incredible.
Thanks for the compliments! I am actually proud of that header image!
The Balkans will still be a great trip when it becomes possible. In the meantime, lots of wonderful things to do in great places and with wonderful people. Our recent trip that took us ‘home’ had to be pretty seriously restricted (by time and budget constraints) to family time throughout and was nonetheless excellent, and in reality probably much more so than if we’d gone running around trying to ‘fit in’ all of the other people and places we’d love to have included in the trip. Funny how enforced parameters can sometimes lead to very welcome outcomes. I hope and expect that will be so for you two, too, adaptable as you are! Happy travels, *wherever* they take you!
