The Viking and I love to explore the Mosel region in Germany and Luxembourg. Not only because the landscapes are breathtaking and the wine villages are cosy, but also because they have good wines. We have simply lost our hearts here!
We always discover new places, but there are a couple of villages and wineries that we simply adore and try to visit as much as possible. Winery Walter J. Oster in Ediger-Eller is a good example. This winery has a long family wine-making tradition spanning back 15 generations. They cultivate about 5.5 ha of vineyards in Ediger-Eller, with 80 year old vines reflecting the region’s unmistakable taste and origin.
What is their philosophy? I quote – with their permission, by the way – from their website:
True to our motto “Zeitgeist and Tradition”, we combine age-old values with innovation and new ideas. Especially in viticulture, we nurture these values by cultivating grapes in the steepest terraces to preserve the cultural landscape of the Mosel terraces. Our goal is to create quality-oriented wines while caring for the environment that our grapes grow in.
What about the wines?
Zesty Rivaner, tasty Gewürztraminer, spicy Bacchus, as well as rosé and a large selection of red wines round off the wine assortment.
They also have a small assortment of sparkling wines, which you really have to try!
What do we love about this place?
Every time we come here, we feel welcome and we always discover new wines. We usually stay a couple of hours, also because it takes us a lot of time to chose what to taste and what to buy!
should be so nice… I love wine. Thanks and Love, nia
Then you should definitely go to Germany!
I love friendly winery shops like this one and being able to taste wines! With summer coming, it’s definitely time to find some new sparkling wines. Mmmm…
Gosh, I am thirsty now
