As you can imagine, The Viking and I had an extra travel companion in Ostend: Flat Ruthie! Here she is, breathing some fresh air at the North Sea:
Next, we took her to the Langestraat (Long Street). There are a lot of pubs, clubs and restaurants here, but it has a bit of a rundown look nowadays. In the 60ies and 70ies however, there used to be a dancing in this street, which was the only one in Belgium which played black music like soul and funk. The manager of this dancing was the same man who met Marvin Gaye in London and convinced him to come to Belgium.
Afterwards, we took Flat Ruthie to the Casino-Kursaal, which is one of the biggest landmarks of Ostend. This is more than a casino, it’s also a concert hall and a restaurant. Don’t worry, Flat Ruthie didn’t gamble and neither did we!
Last but not least, a picture of Flat Ruthie with … Marvin Gaye!
The day afterwards, Flat Ruthie was very tired, so we spoiled her a bit. First with some good beer:
Yes, she is doing well in Belgium!
Have a look here at her other adventures!
So now I really have to go to Belgium!!
Yes, you have to
Absolutely will!
Deze foto serie is geweldig en tovert een lach op mijn gezicht
ik weet zeker dat Flat Ruthie het echt naar haar zin had
Absoluut!
She is one well-traveled dame!
And in a couple of days, she will travel a lot more!
I’d love to see Flat Ruthie come to San Diego. I’d show her a good time!
