Road Tripping Europe

Discovering and photographing the unknown beauty of Europe

An unexpected memory in Ostend

Last Saturday, when we were having a walk in Ostend, The Viking suddenly told me that our first stay in this town was the best trip we had ever made.

I was a bit surprised. We have made longer trips to more exotic destinations, we have seen more spectacular landscapes and monuments, we have admired art works in various museums all over Europe… And a simple trip of one week at our Belgian coast is the best travel experience of The Viking? Had he gone completely mad? What about Odessa? The lakes in Sweden?

So, the last couple of days I have been reconstructing some events of that first trip to Ostend and I have been talking to my soulmate about this, and I can only come to one conclusion: The Viking is a very romantic and tender man. I can consider myself to be a very lucky woman indeed!

He pointed out to me that this was the first holiday that we were away from Brussels for more than one day. It was the first time that we spent so much time on the road together. It was also the first time that we spent Saint Valentine’s together. And it was the first time that I showed him some of my favorite places in Belgium, France and the Netherlands. The Viking had stored all that carefully in his memory.

But the one detail that he cherished most was the restaurant where we ate the first and the last day. We celebrated Saint Valentine’s there and the last day, we drank some champagne while watching the sun go down. We held hands the whole time. Those were some of the most thrilling moments of his life. I was enormously touched when he told me this…

I only have pictures of that first day. We hope you enjoy them!

The mixture of love and the fact that we only had a limited time, made this last evening very special to me. And the Sweet Kitten surprised me with a glass of champagne, which we drank sitting in the restaurant while we watched the sunset. But the feelings between us stayed and has even grown enormously in the years that have passed since. A precious person entered my life, and we will continue to have romantic moments for the next many years.
